Sound System
From Volkswagen Cabrio Wiki
The MK 3.5 sound system consists of 4 6.5" speakers, 4 tweeters, and the headunit.
There were two options from the dealer in regarding the headunit, a basic component, with AM/FM Radio and Cassette, and also a "monsoon" premium headunit which also included a 6 disc changer located in the rear hatch of the cabrio. both headunits allowed multiple adjustments of fade, balance, mid's, highs (treble), and bass. Both headunits were also equipped with a unique "safety code" which would lock-out any functions of the headunit until it was properly unlocked. This code is located on a warranty card originally located in the owners manual of the vehicle.
The front components are located on the upper dash beneath a grille which is removed by gently prying up from the edges, and behind a mesh grille on the door panels which is removed in a similar manner.
The rear components are housed together on the interior quarter panel next to the rear seat, both sides. As with the front speakers, the grille is easily pried up to gain access to the speakers.
